Drost, Henry Joseph, 87, (November 15, 1927-November 8, 2015), of Spring Hill, FL, passed away peacefully with his wife of 62 years, Louise and his daughter, Sue at his side. Born and raised in Burlington New Jersey, to Polish immigrants, Peter and Sophie Drost, Henry met Louise in first grade where they shared the same classroom, and subsequently, their entire lives.
After graduating from Burlington City High School, Henry enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served two tours overseas during the Korean conflict. As Sergeant First Class Henry J. Drost, Quartermaster Corps, United States Army, Henry received a Bronze Star Medal for “Meritorious Service” while serving in Korea. The citation reads, in part: “....Sergeant Drost, without regard for his personal safety or welfare, worked tirelessly to fill emergency requisitions for advisors in the field and was instrumental in successfully coordinating the frequent movements of the headquarters. The devotion to duty and strenuous efforts of Sergeant Drost contributed materially to maintaining high morale in his organization and reflect great credit on himself and the military service.”
After being honorably discharged from the Army, and marrying his childhood sweetheart, Louise, Henry went to work for Public Service Electric and Gas in New Jersey, where he worked as Gas Division supervisor until he retired in 1989. During that time, Henry and Louise enjoyed multiple trips to the Caribbean, Alaska and even a cruise through the Panama Canal. They ventured on several cross country road trips where they explored the west coast and all parts in between. Henry never tired of seeing the sites along the way.
Henry and Louise eventually moved to Spring Hill Florida, where Henry enjoyed the company of his little Shih Tzu, Sheba, while puttering in his garage and his yard. Henry is also survived by his daughter, Sue, who resides in Concord, CA. Arrangements are private. Pinecrest Funeral Chapel – Spring Hill, FL
