James Douglas Hoffman – “Jim” of Spring Hill, Florida, departed this life on March 24,2025, at age 65. A creative and curious mind, he was always looking for new ideas and ways to express himself through various means.
Jim was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in nearby Eden, New York where he attended Eden Central High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Orlando Florida and Norfolk, Virginia. Not one to settle for long, he moved to Costa Mesa, California afterwards and worked at several locations in southern California. Finally returning to the East Coast, he moved to Richmond, Virginia and began working at Thalhimer’s. There he met his wife of 36 years, Anne. They moved to Fredericksburg and built a life where he worked for Safford Dodge and Nuline Industries. Later, he established his own computer networking business – The Shaymus Company. During this time, Jim was awarded the “Good Guy of the Year” by the Rappahannock United Way for two consecutive years.
Always looking to grow and learn, he proudly became a government contractor for both Harris and Telos corporations and was able to utilize his skills in exotic locations.
He is survived by his wife, Anne O. Hoffman, his daughter Lauren Farrington and son-in-law Joshua Farrington. He had 4 gifted grandchildren - Jacob Orndorff, Silas Shiflett, Sienna Shiflett and Jayla Shiflett. Jim is also survived by his sisters: Mary Hoffman and spouse Bridgette Lake, Annette and Peter Baldwin, Celeste and Corbett Cockcroft. His parents James Philip Hoffman, Mary Alice (Lennon) Hoffman, and his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Hoffman, predeceased him.
Jim Hoffman was known as gifted musician and painter with many broad and creative interests. He will be remembered for his gregarious personality and his memorable laugh.
A service of remembrance for Jim Hoffman and his beloved daughter Sarah Hoffman will be held at Pinecrest Funeral Chapel on Sunday, May 18, 2025 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.
