Daniel G. Chiz passed away October 2, 2012, at the age of 93. Dan, as he was known to his friends, moved to Florida after retiring from the City of Highland Park, Michigan, where he had served as Director of Personnel and Labor Relations for 27 years. He was a WWII veteran, who served under General George S. Patton, and retired from the U. S. Army, having attained the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and until recent years, was active in community service, many Christmas's found Dan ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.
Dan was predeceased by his wife, Shirley M. Chiz (2008), and his son, Patrick Forrer (2009). He is survived by his 5 daughters, Sharon (Markus) Mayer, of Nevada, Dorothy Gail (Michael) Gray, of Michigan, Julia (Kent) Dickerson, of Michigan, Pamela (Randall) Beilfuss of Alaska, Michele (Dan) Mullins of Florida, his 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to either the Wounded Warrior Project or HPH Hospice.
A private memorial will be planned at a later date.
