Mary Ann Falcone, 90, of Spring Hill, FL, left us peacefully on October 26th. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt to many.
Born on September 13, 1934 and adopted by Theodore and Beatrice Lindstedt, resided in Falconer, NY with her siblings Priscilla and James.
Mary Ann graduated Falconer High School, continuing her education at Geneseo State College of NY, receiving her Librarian and Teaching degrees.
After college, she was hired by the US Army to serve as a Special Service Librarian in Tokyo, Japan where she met her beloved husband, Nicholas Falcone, who was serving as a Medic in the US Army. They married on January 4, 1958 at the Camp Lama Hospital Catholic Chapel in Japan, returning to the states one year later. They’ve been happily married now for 66 years.
They lived near family in NY state for several years before planting roots in Long Branch, NJ, where Mary Ann started her teaching career in the Long Branch School District. She started out teaching 5th grade at West End School, then transferred to 4th grade then 2nd at Gregory Elementary School where she taught for the majority of her teaching career. Her last year before retirement, she was the school librarian for Elberon Elementary School. Mary Ann retired in June of 1998. During her years of teaching, she received the “Teacher of the Year” award several times. She also played an important role in the Teachers Union, and was a strong and passionate advocate for teachers rights. She was devoted and dedicated to her students and all children alike.
Along with raising her family and teaching, Mary Ann joined the Little Silver Women’s Club where she was elected President, which she upheld for several years.
Mary Ann and Nick were active members of Saint Mary’s Church of Deal, NJ, which included starting a Christian Family Group of growing families. This group gathered for many years which created dear and valued friendships, eventually turning into their “Friday Night Movie and Pizza Group.” Mary Ann was also an active member of the Long Branch Senior Center. She and Nick enjoyed volunteering at the center for several decades.
Mary Ann and Nick purchased their campsite in the Poconos, PA. It truly was their home away from home, spending all of their free time there, creating lots of love, laughter and treasured memories with family and friends for many decades.
Mary Ann is survived by the love of her life, Nicholas. She is also survived by her adored children Terry, Susan, Sandie and husband Keith, Scott and wife Brooke; precious grandchildren, KJ and wife Amy, Michele and husband Paul, Juliet, Joseph, Christopher, Nico, Marcus and Justin; and darling great-grandchildren Theo and Harper Marie; her dear brother Bill and wife Susan Schrader, predeceased by her parents, sister Priscilla and husband Jack, brother James and wife Jane, cousins Patti, Herb and surviving wife Laurie, Sue, Carol and Nancy, and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
