Meckie Thomas Harris, 85, of Weeki Wachee, FL passed away on December 29, 2023. He was born on September 17, 1938, in Oklahoma City, OK to George and Opal (Miller) Harris. The third of six children, Meckie joined the Navy right after high school and spent the next 20 years serving our country, retiring at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
After earning his BS degree in business, he went on to spend another 20 years in civil service managing a lab and team growing crystals for the Air Force; adding his name to several patents. While in the Navy, stationed in Brunswick, ME, Meckie met his wife, Lucie, with whom they recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together.
Meckie was a wonderful and loving husband and father of three, always there for his family. His favorite past time was fishing and hunting. Meckie passed on his love of fishing to his own children and grandchildren.
Besides his two younger brothers Kenny and Benny Joe, Meckie is survived by his wife, Lucie, his children Karen and her husband Victor Arredondo, Deborah, and Michael. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Paul, Andrew, Heather, Margaux and Emme, and three great grandchildren; Claire, Theodore, and Everhett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Sturgill Hospice House (HPH Hospice) at 12242 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL who took the greatest care of him.
