MICHAEL JOSEPH ROMANO, aged 96, passed away on October 11, 2024, in Homosassa, Florida. Born on June 16, 1928 in Tuckahoe, NY Michael dedicated his life to his family and his country, leaving behind a legacy of love and leadership. Michael served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1949 and continued his commitment as a reservist until 1953. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career in the automotive industry, managing parts departments at Yonkers Motors, Beck Chevrolet, and Brady Stannard in Brewster, NY. He later transitioned to real estate, where he worked as an agent for Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Somers, NY.
A man of faith, Michael was a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Yorktown Heights, NY and, after retirement, St. Thomas Church in Homosassa, FL. His personal interests were as diverse as his professional endeavors; he built two family homes in Yorktown Heights and Somers, NY, was an avid tennis player, enjoyed motor home camping across the United States and took lessons in ballroom dancing and public speaking.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ellen Romano (nee O’Grady); three children: Michael (Mary), Maryellen Heller (Rob), Kevin and nephew John Friend; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances and Maryann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Garafano Romano and Frederic M. Romano, as well as his sisters Eileen, Carol and Delores.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00am at St. Francis Chapel in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HPH Hospice in Lecanto, Florida, honoring Michael’s compassionate spirit and his enduring impact on those around him.
