Pedro José Vergé Jr. II was born on December 21, 1946, in Vieques, Puerto Rico, to parents Pedro José Vergé and Julia Soto. Growing up in the vibrant culture of Vieques with his sister, Sonia Vergé, Pedro's early life was rich with tradition and family values, qualities that he cherished throughout his life.
In 1993, Pedro (also known as “Pete Sr.” by his close friends and family) moved his wife and children to the United States, bringing with him a love for the Puerto Rican culture of good food, lively music, and wonderful company—traditions he joyfully shared with friends and family. He was a beloved husband to Neida Vergé and a devoted father to three children, Pedro José Vergé Jr. III, Camille Odette Croft, and Yarelis Medina. His role as a grandfather was cherished deeply; he adored his five grandchildren, who loved him immensely and looked up to him as a pillar of strength and kindness.
Those who had the privilege of meeting Pedro would instantly recognize his giving nature and infectious laughter. Known for his humility, loyalty, and the ability to light up any room with his stories and jokes, Pedro was also regarded as a human "encyclopedia" for his vast knowledge and intelligence. A passionate sports fan, he cherished his Sundays watching games, celebrating each play with the same zest with which he lived his life.
Pedro's life was characterized by his unwavering faith in God. Described by those who knew him as a true "servant of God," his spiritual devotion was evident in the way he lived and the values he instilled in his family. His love for God shaped every aspect of his life and is a legacy that continues through his children and grandchildren.
Pedro passed away peacefully on April 12, surrounded by his wife and children, in a room filled with prayer. As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate his rich, fulfilling life and find comfort in knowing that he is now with God.
