Peter Lloyd Hughlett was born in Lima, Peru on June 6, 1943 to Lloyd J. Hughlett and Esther Skalland Hughlett.
As a child he lived with his family for many years in Puerto Rico, and always maintained a fondness for the island and its people. Before college, he studied German while living in Europe. Peter attended the University of Puerto Rico and graduated from Augustana College in South Dakota. He had a talent for languages, fluent in both Spanish and German.
Peter enlisted in the Marines and served in Vietnam. Afterwards he worked for many years in the insurance business and was a successful currency exchange trader.
He especially enjoyed travel, particularly to the far East and the Caribbean. Peter enjoyed a good ride as well. While in college he was well known around campus at Augustana in his Austin Healy. When he returned from Vietnam his first of many luxury cars was a brand new Mercury Marauder. In his garage today is a low-mileage vintage Cadillac.
He is survived by three brothers, Gregory, Brian and Stephen and one sister Phyllis Hughlett Charles, as well as nine nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Eric.
