LANEY, RICHARD “GENE”, 80, of Brooksville passed on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Oak Hill Regional Hospital. A native of Carthage, Missouri, Mr. Laney moved to the area with his late wife Beverly in 1989 from Texas. Gene was a veteran of the US Army, a retired telephone contractor and member of the First United Methodist Church in Brooksville, Florida. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing and games of dominoes. He was also a former pilot who really missed being in flight. He is survived by his wife Nancy, whom he met and married after the passing of his first wife Beverly in 2009; his daughters: Cindy Banks of Tennessee and Stacey of Texas; his step-daughters: Kimberly Pittius and Cassandra Bunje both of New Jersey; and 5 grandchildren: Amber, Branden, and Cory Banks, and Shelby and Layton Moss. Friends may call on Thursday, August 8 at Pinecrest Funeral Chapel – Mariner Boulevard from 2-4 & 6-8. A service celebrating his life will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Brooksville on Friday, August 9 at 9 AM. Internment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with full military honors provided by the Marine Corps League Detachment 708.
