Vernon G. Pryce Sr. 77, died of heart complication at his home in Spring Hill, Florida
He was born November 15, 1945 in Smyrna, Delaware, the son of Hazel P. Spencer and Florence Pryce. Vernon attended Philadelphia Public Schools and completed a 70 Hour course at Philadelphia Community College for Child Psychology in the late 70s.
He was drafted into the Army right out of high school, where he successfully served his country, in Germany.
Vernon married his high school sweetheart Patricia Y. Russ and they settled in Philadelphia. Vernon was a loyal member of the United States Postal Service, where he excelled in his career at the Philadelphia Bulk Mail Center before retiring after 34 years and 27 days. Vernon loved being with his family, he also enjoyed mystery and spy novels, painting, bowling, his Philadelphia eagles, 76ers, and Phillies. But his second love was fishing. He loved going on expeditions with his crew , “ The Ocean Bandits “ a.k.a. “ The Hit Men “ . During a 3-hour fishing trip they pulled in 126 fish.
My dad was a generous, patient, open minded, quiet, reserved, wise, detailed oriented man, who had a sense of humor that would make you smile. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 2 sisters, Maceyne Pryce and Gwentha Pryce and his 2 brothers Wallace Pryce and Niles Hector. Surviving is his son Vernon G. Pryce Jr. , granddaughter Kiana A. Pryce, great grandson Zorion A. Pryce of New York. His sister Bettina Ruffin, his nephew Roderick Hector both of Houston, Texas, Josuf Pryce of Philadelphia, Wallace Dickerson of Delaware, Hakeem Pryce of Maryland, Terick Pryce of Philadelphia and his nieces Davida Pryce of Philadelphia, Leandra Dickerson of Delaware, and aunts Vivian Johnson and Elaine Gardner of Philadelphia, with a host of great nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery located at 940 Comstock Ave. Syracuse ,New York 13210 at 11 a.m. on June 28, 2023. In lieu of flowers or for those desiring memorial contribution, made be made to: Vernon Pryce Jr , 1033 James St Syracuse, New York 13203.
