William E. McCormick, age 88, passed away on July 30, 2017 in Spring Hill, Florida. "Coach Mac" as he was known, was one of six children. He grew up in Hagersville, Ontario and learned to play hockey at an early age. He joined the U. S. Army following his graduation from East Chicago Indiana High School. After his military service, he was recruited to play football for Michigan State University. Instead, he elected to play ice hockey. Over his four years, he was a leading scorer and co-captain for two years. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1952 and married his college sweetheart, Martha Ann Blanchard. He obtained his master's degree from MSU. As a married couple, Bill and Marty moved east to Williamstown, Massachusetts. He continued his playing career with the Clinton Comets, semi-pro hockey team. Coach Mac not only became the Freshman and Varsity hockey coach at Williams College, but also worked as the Director of the Williamstown Boys Club. During his distinguished 35 year career as a Division III hockey coach, he was elected President of the American Hockey Coaches Association. As a teacher, coach, skilled athlete, and Assistant Athletic Director, Coach McCormick impacted many lives.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marty. He is survived by his loving family of five children; James (Natalie), Susan, Nancy (Matthew), Erin (Randall), and John (Christina) and nine grandchildren.
