Bernadette I Duncan

1952 — June 18, 2020

Bernadette Duncan, 68, passed away June 18, 2020 at the Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, FL with her daughter by her side. She is survived by her husband of 42 years Wayne, daughter Christina and brother Robert Sokol. Bernadette was born February 21, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York to Michael and Mary Sokol. She is preceded in death by her 3 sisters Eunice McMullen, Dorothy Morda and Carol Gibbons. Bernadette worked for Merrill Lynch in the payroll department, in Manhattan, New York. In 1974 she met Wayne Duncan and they wed in 1978. The two enjoyed camping trips and cross country skiing in the Poconos. In 1988 Wayne and Bernadette gave birth to their daughter Christina and moved to Florida. During her 32 years in Florida, Bernadette became an active PTA member and passionate volunteer in each of Christina's schools (John D Floyd Elementary, Powell Middle and Springstead High). During her time at Springstead, Bernadette was a devoted Band Mom to the Marching Eagles, diligently curated the high school newsletter and developed the Scholarship Committee. Bernadette's relentless work in the Scholarship Committee resulted in over $10 million awarded to the graduating high school students. Bernadette was a loving, caring, kindhearted woman. She was a skilled puzzle solver, enjoyed reading and treasured the beach. In recent years, Bernadette became a passionate hockey fan, cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning with her daughter. Bernadette's smile and laugh will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed. The family requests, in lieu of sending flowers, that donations be made directly to Hospice. https://www.chaptershealth.org/locations/hph-hospice-hernando/
