Marion Barclay

Marion Barclay passed away peacefully on January 2, 2021 at Spring Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brooksville, Florida. She was born on April 15, 1929 in Mount Vernon, NY to Perlie Roy and Marion Rose. She grew up in North White Plains, NY with her sister Grace. She graduated from White Plains High School where she met her future husband. She worked as a legal secretary. Marion married Robert Barclay on September 5, 1948 in White Plains. Robert was a Corporal in the Army when they married and they moved to Fort Dix, NJ. After his time in the service, they bought a house in a new development in Massapequa Park where they began raising their family. A move was made to a larger home in Massapequa when the family grew. Marion and Bob spent quality family time with their four children with a pool in the backyard, at Jones Beach, vacations and the drive-in. She worked part time as a secretary during these years. When their children were grown, Marion and Bob enjoyed traveling for over 20 years all around the world including Europe and South America, Australia and throughout the United States. They both enjoyed golf and retired to Brooksville, Florida in 1987 where they bought a house on a golf course which also had a clubhouse and pool. They treated their grandchildren to a week each year in Florida which included a trip to Disney World. Marion and Bob were very involved with the Community Methodist Church in Massapequa Park and Mariner Methodist Church in Spring Hill, Florida. Marion was active in the Womens group, craft group and she played in the bell choir. A lifelong hobby was knitting and all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren received beautiful sweaters, scarves and afghans. On Long Island, she was a member of the Amaranth. After retiring, Marion volunteered at Brooksville Regional Hospital and the Mariner United Methodist Church. Marion and Bob celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Bob passed away on October 2, 1998. Although she missed him greatly, she continued to lead an active life. Marion was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents Perlie and Marion, her sister Grace, son Roy and son-in-law Lon Best. She leaves behind her children: Barbara (Steven) Rothenberg, Robert (Beverly) Barclay, and Lorene Barclay Best; her grandchildren: Brendon (Francesca) Barclay, Brian Rothenberg, Brittany (Tom) Gashonia, Jennifer Rothenberg, and Bradley (Erica) Barclay; her Barclay great grandchildren: Charli, Julianna, Genevieve, Everette and Caterina. A service will be held at Mariner Methodist Church in Brooksville, Florida when it is safe to do so. Marion will be buried with her husband Robert at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
